| Hazard Identification |
 |
What does this phrase mean to your business? The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE Act) requires employers to develop a system that identifies those processes, equipment, chemicals or environments that could cause their employees or members of the public harm during the course of their work.
The system must be ongoing and involve worker participation. After the hazards have been identified they must be assessed as to whether they are significant or not. Significant hazards must be controlled.
There are at least four ways to identify hazards and Company Health Services can help you create and maintain a system in your business that meets these legal obiligations. It sounds like hard work and initially it can be but the benefits to your business will exceed merely meeting legal compliance and will enhance staff relations and output. We offer training in this area. |

| Health and Safety Systems and Advice |
 |
The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE Act) makes employers responsible for creating safe workplaces.
The Act imposes a systematic approach to managing Health and Safety on employers. It is based on identifying, assessing, prioritising and managing hazards in a systematic way. Whilst the Act describes the required outcomes of the system, the actual system is up to the individual employer to devise. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines, particularly if someone is injured in your workplace.
Company Health Services can help you enhance or develop your systems to meet the HSE Act requirements. This is a process that requires input from employees.
Our staff can become your resource to guide you through this process to achieve compliance with the law and avoid litigation. |
| |
| Health Monitoring |
 |
Did you know that the Health and Safety employment Act 1992 (HSE Act) states that you need to monitor employees health if they are exposed to hazards at work that might affect their health? Take noise for example. Regular hearing testing is expected for people working in noisy environments even if you are providing hearing protection. Many other hazards require similar monitoring of effect on the employee.
If you have a hazard in your workplace we can advise whether you need to do monitoring. Some services do tests that can lead to a legal minefield. Company Health Services can help sort this issue out to ensure you do only the right tests at the right intervals. |
| |
| Injury Management |
 |
If your company is looking for significant premium discounts from ACC then the partnership programme offers these. Part of the requirements for entry into this scheme is having a recognised injury manager dealing with your injured workers.
We are skilled in the process of injury management not only from a treatment angle but also from the legal and administrative perspective. We work well with other third party providers and ensure a seamless service to our clients. |
| |
| Noise & Air Monitoring |
 |
Environmental noise and air quality can be major concerns for many employees. Employers can ensure they are meeting legal requirements or guidelines by measuring noise and air quality characteristics in their workplace.
Company Health Services have people that can come and measure noise both in terms of the environment and also in terms of individual worker exposure. This makes you the employer certain that management of noise is being performed to legal requirements. If not, we will directly identify those issues that need to be addressed.
Air quality concerns can be addressed in a similar manner. |

| OOS/RSI Systems and Advice |
 |
OOS or Occupational Overuse Syndrome is also known as RSI and many other names. This is a blanket term used to describe a number of painful conditions associated with repetitive work. Classically people who develop pain do not gain early access to good advice and treatment and so the pain fuels and often ruins their life. An employer loses a valuable employee and costs skyrocket through ACC premiums and replacing staff.
Company Health Services offers early intervention systems, training, work site assessments, second opinion services and expert treatment and rehabilitation.
We can make sure that your people are very unlikely to develop this problem or if they already have how to reduce the impact on them and your business. |
| |
| Post Employment Testing |
 |
It is possible for you to end up paying for the damage done in another industry to one of your employees. If one of your employees leaves and goes to another similar job and suffers an injury it is possible for you to pick up some of the costs of that injury even if there was no damage caused to the employee whilst working for you. The classic example is loss of hearing in noisy occupations. If an employee goes deaf and you have a noisy workplace you may be liable for some of the costs of that claim.
Ring fence your risk. Ensure there is adequate control of the hazard in your workplace and test your employees when they leave so there is proof of health at the time of leaving. No claims can then be made against you. Post-employment testing reduces your risk. |
| |
| Pre-employment Testing |
 |
You need new employees. How do you know if they are fit to do the job?...or even if they are fit, that they won't become ill from exposures to chemicals or processes in the job? Are you fearful that by asking questions you may be abusing some right under law?
There is a way through this. We know and understand all the relevant legislation (Health and Disability, Privacy, Employment Relations Acts) and create a process that is legally acceptable.
Company Health Services can devise processes from simple questionnaires through to extensive medical examination and testing based on your workplace and the work your people do there. Such systems ensure you minimise and understand the risks of employing a particular individual. This will give you a sense of security whilst meeting your Health and Safety obligations. |
| |
| Rehabilitation |
 |
The cost of a worker off sick or injured from your work place can be extreme. Covering a skilled worker costs overtime, training costs and often decreased productivity and quality.
Good rehabilitation will reduce the costs and the downtime. Research has proven that people get better quicker and have less long term effects when actively rehabilitated following injury or illness. This saves employers money.
Company Health Services has very experienced staff in this field that can work with you the employer, the injured person and ACC to ensure safe effective early return to work. We can ensure that your staff get the support they need to get back to their jobs quickly regardless if the absence is created by work injuries, non-work injuries or sickness. |
| |
| Stress Management |
 |
Stress and how to reduce it is becoming a catchphrase for the new millennium. Some stress is good but the feeling of overload can be very destructive to individuals and for the business where they work.
Company Health Services can help employers identify those individuals who are stressed through a variety of processes from questionnaires through to seminars and one on one counselling. Training can be given to groups or individuals to enable them to recognise stress and then learn how to manage it. |
| |
| Second Opinion Medical Assessments |
 |
Your employee has been certified as unfit to work as a result of a workplace accident. It concerns you when you think that you have done all this work to ensure that good alternative duties are available and encouraged. What's more this injury may cause you to miss some Health and Safety goals you have set. You have the right to ask for a second opinion from a doctor you nominate.
Company Health Services have doctors prepared to take on this role and ensure that workers are given the best chance of a quick recovery through appropriate treatment and returning to appropriate duties. Company Health Services can help you devise systems of communication, and relationships, to reduce the chance of such events occurring. We can be involved with any long-term rehabilitation to ensure best outcomes. |
| |
| Training |
 |
Do your staff need training in First Aid, The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE Act), or Health issues like shift work?
Giving people good information about their responsibilities and their health can enhance worker performance.
Company Health Services can offer training in a wide variety of Health and Safety related fields and can adapt any training process to your particular workplace. |
